What Are Rodents?

Rats and mice are a persistent and damaging pest.

They eat and contaminate all kinds of stored products in homes and buildings including cereals, fruits and vegetables. Basically anything we eat they eat. They enter our homes in search of these foods and then chew on our furniture, clothes, cabinets, wires and walls.

Rodents carry numerous diseases such as Rat-Bite Fever, Plague, Dysentery, Salmonella and Hantavirus. They have also been associated with asthma.

A mouse will have 5 to 6 litters each year and there are usually 6 to 8 young in a litter. A rat will have 4 to 6 litters each year and there are usually 6 to 12 young in their litter. Once you find evidence of mice or rat activity in your home or building immediate attention is needed.

How Are They Controlled?

All animals have three requirements for life: food, water and shelter. Once they have found these essential ingredients in your home 0ur control measures will need to be there as well.

Identification of the harborage and feeding areas is the first step. Mice will be in a close proximately of this evidence because they normally eat, breed and live within a 50 square foot area. Rats as well as mice will forage in and out of a building. Once we’ve identified the infestation areas, we begin our service which will include traps and rodenticides.

It is important to identify possible entry points and seal and close these areas when and where possible. Rodenticide placements will be needed within the building’s crawl space and attic. It is not uncommon for bait placements to be stationed around the building’s exterior and in and around storage rooms, utility closets and heater closets.

Once control is established it is important to maintain a rodent free environment with a consistent pest control programs.
